The Southwest Pacific Dialogue (SwPD) is a dialogue forum between 6 participating countries, namely Australia; Indonesia; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; the Philippines; and Timor Leste. Indonesia initiated the establishment of the Southwest Pacific Dialogue (SwPD) on 24 – 25 November 2000 at the 4th ASEAN Informal Summit in Singapore (West Pacific Forum) and South West Pacific Dialogue formally established on 2002 through the signing of the Jogjakarta Declaration.

The objectives of this cooperation is to create a dialogue forum for political, security, economic, and social-cultural issues to achieve a peaceful, stable, and prosperous sub-region in the Southwest Pacific. The SwPD has a strategic importance for Indonesia, bearing in mind that this forum is one of the main pillars of the Indonesian foreign policy. Moreover, the dialogue mechanism is expected to create a mutual understanding and respect toward the integration of each participating country. It is expected that the dialogue will be able to enhance cooperation amongst the SwPD participating countries.
